Ruddock confident but wary

Ruddock’s first Championship match may be against the Rugby World Cup Champions, but the Wales Coach said he was looking forward to the Millennium Stadium match.

“We’re a confident squad and we can’t wait to get out there,” he said. “We have a lot of respect for England and we know we’re going to have to be on the top of our form to get a result. We’re hoping the Millennium Stadium crowd can give us the boost they gave us during the game against the All Blacks in the Lloyds TSB Autumn Series.”

England Coach Andy Robinson made a late change to his team on Friday, bringing in Sale Sharks backrower Chris Jones for the injured Lewis Moody, but Ruddock said he was expecting the move. “We’ve been planning for a change there since Moody hurt his hamstring, so this hasn’t come as a surprise.”

Wales backrower Martyn Williams, coming in for the injured Colin Charvis, will earn his fiftieth cap on Saturday, while bench player John Yapp will make his Test debut if he joins the fray during the game. With rain predicted, the Millennium Stadium roof will be closed for the big game.
