WALES UNDER 19S MISS OUT

England finished fourth and Wales fifth in last year’s Under-19 World Cup and that was emphasised by England’s fine performance at the Talbot Athletic Field, Aberavon.

However, good play by Wales led to them leading by a try from scrum half Martin Roberts (Neath/Ospreys), but England scored all their 24 points before Wales were to score again.

Flanker Andrew Boyde (Leeds University) put the sides level with a try and then came the turning point as Wales fly half Gareth Williams-Davies (Blues/Rumney) had a pass intercepted and wing Dominic Shabbo (London Irish) tore away to score at the other end.

Fly half Daniel Cipriani (London Wasps/Whitgift School) converted and soon added a try after a spectacular break by centre Adam Powell (Saracens/Sawyers School).

England poured it on and and full back David Doherty (Leeds Tykes) made a superb run to touch down with Cipriani converting.

The only score of the second half was a try by speedy Wales wing Michael Davies(Llangennech), but Wales must now rethink before taking on Italy at Parabagio on February 11.
