Wales Defence Coach, Clive Griffiths, said Wales had ‘turned the corner’ after holding the Rugby World Cup Champions tryless: “It’s always a nice statistic and they didn’t look like scoring a try, to be fair. We were a bit more lateral today and up fast. I think that we may have caught England a bit unawares.
“The only time they got in behind us, around the short side, we scrambled well, which I was happy with. We did target their centres. I told the boys that Mathew Tait was young and that he was going to have one of two games; either he was going to be brilliant or we were going to rattle him. Fortunately, it was the latter.
“We are a difficult side to break down, but this win doesn’t mean we’ve arrived defensively, we’ve got a long way to go.”
Griffiths went on to say there were a couple of areas he would be looking at: “I thought our kick-chase game wasn’t as good as it could be, and the boys perhaps need to be a bit more vocal, but I was very pleased with the performance. This win hopefully means we’ve turned a corner, and we can go on with it.”
