Beddau will be without coach Brett Davey in Saturday’s cup tie after he suffered a chipped shoulder bone, but they defeated bottom club Brynmawr 59-0 with tries by Chris Jones (2), Andy Bird (2), Dan Palk, Dean Barnes, Rob Downes, Owen Thomas and Glen Slater with Steve Robinson goaling seven.
Glamorgan Wanderers conceded five tries but still won 39-29 at Blackwood as Mark Heywood placed two conversions and four penalties. David Owen scored a try and a drop goal and Huw Williams (2) and Jeff Hobbs added tries.
Blackwood wing Alan Bunney led the way for the home side with a brace of tries and Gareth Williams, Lewis Hamer and Gavin Rees also crossed with Jeremy Lloyd converting twice.
Builth Wells gained a good 26-10 win over UWIC at Cyncoed as Robert Lloyd fired over a penalty hat-trick and a conversion with Ed Jenkins, lock Jeff Kinsey and centre Tom Davies crossing while Phil Dolman kicked a penalty and converted a try by prop Jamie Stevens for the Students.
Whitland’s new young New Zealand lock Rawhiti Williams scored atry in their 26-10 win over Tonmawr as Eifion Roberts (2) and Johnny Koloi also scored with Roberts converting three. Tonmawr’s try came from wing Mike Burke with Aled James converting and dropping a goal.
Wing Chris Batsford scored two tries as Bonymaen defeated Carmarthen Athletic 25-15. Gareth James and Mike White also crossed with Anthony Evans kicking five points as Julien Howells and Leighton McKenna went over for the losers and McKenna added a conversion and penalty goal.
