Jones warms up his kicking boots
The Wales outside half came through the game without injury and helped to steer his team into tenth place in the sixteen team league, nine points off the relegation zone.
“It was good to get a win at the weekend and I was happy to come through it without any problems. When you play abroad you understand you have to play for your club before internationals and I was quite happy to have had a game,” said Jones. The former Scarlets No.10 was one of two Welsh players who turned out in French club matches.
National skipper Gareth Thomas was a second half replacement in Toulouse’s victory. Having picked up victories on the domestic front last weekend, both Jones and Thomas will now be focussing on making it three in a row in the RBS Six Nations Championship with Wales.
Their insight into the French rugby scene could prove invaluable to their side, although Jones is a bit wary of the unbeaten French as they aim to make it a championship record ten wins in a row.
“The French public aren’t happy with the way the French team have been playing even though they’ve won both games to date. They are really disappointed with the way they are playing because they haven’t been showing the traditional French flair,” said Jones.
“We know they can turn up and play as they did against Australia in November, when they won handsomely, or like they did when they lost to New Zealand. They love it when their back three are running the ball back at teams and we must make sure we don’t give them any loose possession.”
