Second-placed Maesteg kept up the pressure by winning 31-22 at Cyncoed against the UWIC students as full back Andrew Hutchngs ran in a try hat-trick and Matthew Jeffrey and skipper Karl Hocking also went over, while Alex Heatley, Nathan Trowbridge and Phil Dolman gained the UWIC tries.
Narberth’s new young wing Stephen Davies scored two tries to kill off Carmarthen Athletic 24-15 with others by Andrew Bowen and Adrian KIlla against Athletic scores by wing Mark Williams and scrum half Geraint Jones.
Wing Lennie Woodard equalled Wayne Proctor’s record of 116 league tries, but it did not save Tonmawr from a 13-10 loss to Bonymaen, for whom wing Lyndon Johnson gained a touchdown.
Fleur de Lys scored tries by Rhys Hallett and former Wales cap Glen George, but lost 24-17 at home to Builth Wells, for whom Rob Lloyd scored 14 points.
DIVISION 2
The most amazing result of the season came in Two West as leaders Waunarlwydd fell 15-14 away to bottom club Tondu, while Kidwelly made ground by defeating Dunvant 31-7. Lower-place clubs went well with wins for Nantymoel, Pontyberem and Newcastle Emlyn.
In the East, the top two sides won again as Ystrad Rhondda made it by 35-17 at Treeorchy and Newport Saracens smashed Brynithel 36-0. Abercynon leapt to third with an 18-12 win at Llantrisant as skipper Leighton Winder dropped a handy goal.
DIVISION 3
Unbeaten Division Three clubs Bargoed and Rhydyfelin kept their records, but Bargoed only just edged home 12-11 at Blaina, while Abergavenny gained a good 12-3 win over Pill in the East.
Rhydyfelin defeated Tylorstown 35-6 in the South-East and Mountain Ash got home by 23-19 in a nail-bighter at Ynysybwl. Tonyrefail won 90-0 at Penygraig with Geraint Shalton kicking ten conversions and scoring one of the 14 tries and Gareth Banfield ran in three.
Loughor retained the lead in the West after a good 25-5 win away to Pembroke Dock Quins, but Aberystwyth were upset 11-10 at home by Lampeter. South-West leaders Maesteg Quins won 36-6 at Skewen, but they are chased by Seven Sisters and Nantyffyllon both won away.
DIVISION 4
Resolven in the South-West fell 35-15 at Heol y Cyw and Tonna made ground on therm by winning 20-13, while in the South-East it was status quo as Fairwater, Aberdare and Penarth all won again.
There was no change in the North as leaders Llangefni defeated Denbigh 30-16, but in an important relegation game, Dolgellau beat Rhyl 30-5.
Amman Utd in the West found they had no game at Gowerton, but Laugharne slipped up as they lost 16-18 at home to Cefneithin. Bettws came off the bottom by slamming Burry Port 44-6.
In the East, leaders Pontllanfriath only just got over Newport HSOB by 10-0 and Trinant edged through at St Peter’s by 17-15.
DIVISION 5
Nantyglo won their 17th game in succession in Five East as they pounded RTB (Ebbw Vale) 56-0 with wing Ollie Mulligan scoring three of their nine tries.
They were helped by the fact that St Alban’s and Machen drew 10-10 at Tremorfa Park. Bala made a big step to the Five North title by defeating nearest rivals Bethesda 40-15 and Abercrave retained a seven-point lead over Birchgrove in the South-West by running riot over third-placed Crynant by 65-0. Pembroke lead in the West by six points fter beating St David’s 25-0 as ew Dock Stars crashed 18-5 at Penygroes and Swansea Uplands pulled off a shock 54-5 win over Bynea.
In the South-East, South Wales, Cilfynydd and Cefn Coed all have 39 points after each gained their 13th win of the season, but Porth and Penallta are still a threat.
