125TH ANNIVERSARY DEBENTURES FLYING OUT THE DOOR
That means more than £750,000 has already been cashed since launching the issue last week.
“The feel good factor in Welsh rugby is all being driven by the success of the national team and we are seeing unprecedented levels of interest in our new debenture issue and many other commercial activities,” said WRU chief executive David Moffett.
WRU chairman David Pickering added, “We are looking to raise another £4.8m to further secure the financial stability and prosperity of the WRU Group through the 125th anniversary debenture issue and by selling 125 in the first few days we have made a fantastic start. One fan came into the office on Monday after the win in Paris and spent £24,000 on four debentures.”
The 125th Anniversary Debenture Issue is the eighth issue offered to fans by the WRU since 1969 and once the £4.8m target has been reached it will mean more than £30m will have been raised for Welsh rugby.
“We decided to offer people who are quick on the uptake for these debentures the chance to buy the same number of tickets for what could be the RBS Six Nations Championship decider against Ireland on March 19. This lure is proving irresistible to many people,” continued Moffett.
“Tickets for the Irish game are in huge demand on both sides of the Irish Sea due to the success of both teams this season and buying one of the new debentures might be the only way to guarantee a seat at what could turn out to be one of the biggest games in Welsh rugby history.”
In order to take up the offer of buying tickets for Wales v Ireland, applications for debentures must be received with full payment by 12 noon on Monday, 7 March. Any enquires regarding debentures should be directed to the WRU Debenture Office on 02920 822431/ 2 or by email debenture@wru.co.uk
