Twins front up for Scotland

Club graphic

Scotland v Wales
Sunday 13th March 2005, 4.45pm
Murrayfield, Edinburgh

6ft tall Louise won her first cap against France in 2003, with ‘little sister’ (at 5ft 11in) gaining honours a year later in Ireland. Louise said “We’ve been waiting to start together for a long time and we’re both looking forward to packing down on such a huge stage”.

Kylie Wilson leads the team as they take to the hallowed turf of Murrayfield for the first women’s Scotland v Wales fixture to be held at the legendary ground. With kick-off straight after the men’s match, both the SWRU and WWRU are hoping the ladies will play to a record crowd and bolster the awareness of and interest in women’s rugby.

The Wales back and second rows remain unchanged from the defeat in France, while behind the pack, Awen Thomas returns to the outside-half berth pairing up with Kerry Jenkins. Non Evans returns to the line-up on the right wing, with Elen Evans retaining the full-back position after outstanding performances in the French and Spanish tests.

Nineteen year old Sophie Williams takes the replacement hooker’s place in the absence of Nicola John, with Rebecca Dando and speedster Hayley Baxter both returning from injury.

The two sides last met at the European Championships in June 2004, with Scotland claiming the narrowest of victories. Wales were down by 11 points at half-time but showed exceptional strength to plough in 10 points in the final forty minutes and nearly snatch victory. This year’s six nations contest looks set to be an equally matched, with both squads at full-strength.
