These Academies will be responsible for the implementation, delivery, development, and monitoring of all programmes designed to prepare potential future professional players within Wales for the demands of the modern game. To this end, the WRU intends to appoint the following positions within the recently acquired WEFO funding scheme:
ACADEMY MANAGERS x 5
FOUR REGIONAL ACADEMY MANAGERS AND A WELSH WOMEN’S RUGBY UNION ACADEMY MANAGER – with direct responsibility for the Academy Programmes within each of the professional regions (Scarlets, Ospreys, Blues and Dragons) and the WWRU.
These Managers will work under the guidance and direction of the WRU High Performance Manager and will be expected to co-ordinate the main elements of work conducted with carefully selected 16-21 year old elite players. They will adopt a holistic approach to their practice and ensure that future regional professional players are rigidly adhering to the specified programmes of work.
The successful applicants will have a clear understanding of the demands of the modern game; experience, knowledge and qualifications in rugby development and education/vocation/performance lifestyle; be decisive and prepared to deal with conflict; possess good man management skills and be able and prepared to work within the Team Wales concept.
RESOURCE COACHES x 7
FOUR REGIONAL ACADEMY CONDITIONING COACHES who will be responsible for the implementation, monitoring, recording and reporting of WRU individual conditioning programmes for elite young players.
These coaches will work under the guidance of the WRU National Conditioning Co-ordinator who will ultimately be responsible for the direction of the work conducted in this vital area. The successful applicants will have knowledge, experience and qualifications in the key elements associated with the development of physiological attributes needed in the modern game.
THREE SKILLS COACHES to work with selected 16-21 year old elite young players. The primary responsibilities will be to identify, analyse, breakdown and develop the necessary skills and understanding of the modern game.
These coaches will work under the guidance of the WRU Elite Coach Manager who will ultimately be responsible for the direction of the work conducted in this vital area. The successful applicants will have knowledge and proven experience of working with young players, be actively involved in the modern game and have a clear understanding of the importance and development of individual, unit and team skills in the game of rugby.
Upon receipt of applications, the WRU will invite selected candidates to interview, when they will be expected to make a presentation on their area of expertise, as well as fielding questions in the specified category of
work.
