20,000 CROWD EXPECTED FOR TRIBUTE MATCH
The second ‘Tribute to the Legends’ match – last summer’s contest between teams raised by Neil Jenkins and Jason Leonard ended in an 80-80 draw – will also feature some of the biggest names in the world game as they pay tribute to two true giants of both the Welsh and British and Irish Lions game.
“We are looking at a crowd of around 20,000 on the day and that would fantastic for two players who thoroughly deserve every tribute going their way,” said Paul Sergeant, Chief Executive of the Millennium Stadium. “The message is to bring the kids for what will be a fantastic afternoon’s entertainment from some of the biggest names in world rugby.”
Howley’s star-studded back division can boast 207 rugby union caps and the forwards can lay claim to a massive 387 for a combined total of 594 Tests. Quinnell’s equally potent line-up includes 14 Lions.
A match featuring Howley’s former school, Brynteg U15, against a Llanelli Schoolboys XV will get the ball rolling followed by a Bridgend Past & Present XV against a Llanelli Past & Present XV before the glittering ‘Tribute to the Legends’ contest.
