DAVEY DISAPPOINTED BY DEFEAT
Matchday four of the U21 World Championship started well for Wales. Davey’s troops started strongly and found themselves 10-3 up midway through the first half, thanks in part to a try by Jamie Roberts, but as errors crept in, Scotland took control and went on to win with a comfortable margin.
“I’m very disappointed with the result,” said Davey. “We made a lot of chances in the first half which we didn’t take. In the second half Scotland upped the ante, and they ended up deserved winners.”
His opposite number Iain Paxton, had a far more positive appraisal of the game.
“I’m very pleased with the result. I think we played our best game today,” he said “The key was that we had control of the ball. We’re also happy because we now get to play Argentina with the public all behind them. It will be a great experience.”
Scotland captain Neil Cochrane said: “It was a very hard game. Games against Wales are always difficult, but we stopped them in the first half, we pressured them and we played the game by being ahead. In the second half they scored first, but we put the pressure on them again and played them on the counter attack.”
Wales full back Ricky Williams added: “It was very hard, Scotland played better and won a lot of the ball. We’re disappointed because we won the Six Nations and we came here with high expectations. Saturday against England will be special. We beat them in the Six Nations and we hope to beat them again.
Wales play England in their final game of the championships on June 25.
