OSPREYS FALTER IN SCOTLAND
Steffan Terblanche and Matthew Jones both scored tries but they were not enough to save the Ospreys from their third defeat of the season. Lyn Jones’s side have now lost as many games in the opening month of the new season as they did throughout the whole of the last campaign when they lifted the title.
It had looked god for the defending champions when Terblanche stormed over after a scorching break by Sonny Parker. Johnny Vaughton was also involved. Edinburgh hit back through prop Alasdair Dickinson then Chris Patterson and Matthew Jones exchanged penalties as the sides went into the break at 10-10. But having hit their hosts early in the first half, the Ospreys were caught napping at a lineout and Simon Taylor benefited with a try just three minutes into the second half.
Jones kept his side in touch with a try moments later only for Edinburgh centre Rob Dewey to barge his way through to stretch the lead again. Try as they did, the Ospreys could not find a way through and had to for Jones’ penalty with the last kick of the game to salvage a bonus point.
