WRU REEBOK REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS PREVIEW
The Ospreys U16 travel to Newbridge on Saturday morning bidding to maintain their 100 per cent record in this season’s WRU Reebok Regional Championship. However, the side faces arguably its stiffest task to date against a Dragons side who are themselves unbeaten after an opening day victory against the Scarlets earlier in the month.
Daniel Biggar will once again attract the attention of those in black and amber – the young outside half has been in sparkling form this season with Regional High Performance manager Dai Arthur admitting that Biggar is one of a number of terrific players within the squad.
“The side has started well and although there is plenty of hard work to come, we are not surprised we have started so well because we have a good bunch of lads once again and a good spirit.”
And Ron Schottle, RHP manager with the Dragons said, “We are very pleased with our progress. We have had a good win at U16 level and in midweek our U20 defeated the Blues at Abertillery. I would like to think we can continue moving in the same upward direction.”
The U18, who like the U16 boast a 100 per cent record, take on the Blues at Pontypridd’s Sardis Road.
The Scarlets U18, who have won one and lost one so far this term, take on the Dragons at Caerphilly’s Virginia Park whilst the region’s U16 have a weekend off. The other U16 game sees the Blues South and North meet at Brecon (11am).
Blues South have enjoyed mixed fortunes so far this season – they lost first time out to the Ospreys at Llanrumney Fields, but made amends last week with a 13-8 victory over the Scarlets.
