ADSA LEAGUES: EAST DIVISIONS ROUND UP

A match between a league’s unbeaten top side and its winless bottom side was never going to be pretty for one set of fans, and so it proved as Harriers centre Craig Lloyd ran in four tries. Fullback Mark Everson chimed in with a hat-trick and two-try winger Carl Barnett added 15 points with the boot as Harriers stayed one point clear of Llantwit Fardre and Newport Saracens.

Llantwit Fardre winger Adrian Lee scored three tries in a 36-15 win at Brynithel, while Saracens lock Paul Watkins scored a brace in his club’s entertaining 38-21 victory at home to Nantymoel. In other matches, Abercynon fly-half Matthew Turner’s four penalties helped his side edge struggling Tredegar 17-16, while Bargoed continued their fine start to the season with a 21-16 win at Rumney.

It’s all change at the top of the Division 3 East table, with leaders Senghenydd and Abergavenny both losing. Senghenydd were pipped 11-10 at home to Pontypool United, while previously winless Blaina produced the shock of the round with a 24-15 win at previously unbeaten Abergavenny. New Tredegar kept their line intact with a 22-0 victory over Nelson, and Llanishen recorded a comfortable 36-7 win over Risca, who are still looking for their first competition points of the season.

In Division 3 South-East, Pencoed despatched Abercwmboi 40-7 to stay unbeaten on top, with Brecon’s 34-21 victory over Tylorstown leaving them second. Garndiffaith fell off the Division 4 East pace with a 13-8 loss at Tredegar Ironsides, leaving Newport HSOB and Trinant fighting it out at the top.

Newport sneaked past Nantyglo 12-6, while Trinant also remain unbeaten after their 21-6 home victory over Oakdale. Monmouth fans thought they were watching their first win of the season, but Cardiff HSOB moved up a gear to record a 29-20 win.

In Division 4 South-East, leaders Taffs Well returned from Penygraig with a 19-0 win, and second-placed Penallta smashed Penarth’s unbeaten season wide open with a 47-18 home victory. At the other end of the table, Dinas Powys collapsed to a 66-10 loss at Cilfynydd – their fifth straight defeat of the season.

Division 5 East is not getting any easier to predict, with five teams locked together on 12 points at the top of the table. Of those, Bettws, Machen and Usk are all unbeaten, with Gwernyfed and Blaenavon having played one more game than their rivals. Machen were the most impressive of the front-runners on Saturday, beating St Josephs 41-5, while Llanhilleth climbed off the bottom with a hard-fought 16-13 win over RTB Ebbw Vale.
