The WRU have successfully negotiated an extra fixture for 2006 against the Australians to repeat the four-Test series that Welsh players and fans enjoyed so much this November. More than 290,000 fans thronged to the Millennium Stadium to see Gareth Thomas’s side tackle New Zealand, Fiji, South Africa and Australia in this year’s Invesco Perpetual Series – the first time that Wales had met all three southern hemisphere super-powers in the IRB’s autumn international window.

The record attendance levels meant there was an average gate of more than 73,000 for each match – easily the highest of all Six Nations sides this autumn. And both Australia and New Zealand will be back in 2006 to complete an enthralling line-up of fixtures that also includes a first game ever against the Pacific Islands and Canada.

The Wallabies, who are also in Wales’ Pool in the 2007 Rugby World Cup, will open next year’s series on Saturday, 4 November. Next up will be the combined strength of Fiji, Samoa and Tonga as the Pacific Islands make their first trip to Europe on the weekend of 10/11/12 November. Canada will be in Cardiff on Saturday, 18 November and the world’s top ranked side, New Zealand, will be back on Saturday, 25 November.
