LOMU DEBUT DELAYED
Lomu had received an all clear to play clear to play Sunday’s Powergen Cup tie at Madejski Stadium from the specialist who operated on his shoulder during the summer.
But he will now have to wait until Cardiff return to the Heineken Cup with the Blues biding their time more than two years after his last competitive game.
“He is training particularly well this week but it’s only fair to him and the team that he is put through the right contact and conditioning before his return,” said Cardiff assistant Rob Howley.
“His physical shape has changed over the last three weeks and he’s looking good. Hopefully he will be involved in the squad for our Heineken Cup games. It just depends on how he coomes through training.”
It is now likely that Lomu will play some part in Cardiff’s European tie against Calvisano before making a full debut in the return match at the Arms Park the following week.
Meanwhile Cardiff have also rested Wales trio Robert Sidoli, Rhys Thomas and Martyn Williams a week after their part in the historic 24-22 vicitory over Australia.
