Callow scorched over for two tries while fellow centre Darren Humphreys, wing Lee Pearson and outside half Jamie Howells, who converted four, all went over in the 33-15 victory that keeps Bargoed three points clear at the top. However Newport Saracens are keeping Bargoed in their sights with a 20-6 win at Nantymoel while full-back Daniel Morris was the hat-trick hero for Tredegar as they shocked third-placed Abercynon with a 41-17 defeat. At the other end of the table, Brynmawr are still looking for their first win of the season after they were condemned to a 15th successive defeat by Pill Harriers.

There was better news for Risca in Division Three East after they recorded only their second win of the season against mid-table Llanishen. Outside-half Matthew Johnson bagged a match-winning 21-points haul for the league’s bottom side that included a full-house of scores with a try, three penalties, two conversions and a drop goal. In contrast, leaders Abergavenny went down to only their second defeat of the campaign with a shock 38-18 reverse at Blaina while Pontypool Utd ran in nine tries in their 64-6 demolition of hapless Senghenydd, wing Rob Morgan helping himself to two.

Young full-back Mike Bourke could not have asked for a better start to senior rugby with a four-try debut as Newport HSOB hammered Trinant 72-0 in Division Four East. The Old Boys crossed for 12 tries in total which also included a hat-trick from winger Tom Diggle. However that could not top second-placed St Peters who hammered Talywain 89-5. Centre Steve Ireland and winger James Spackman both bagged hat-ticks and Neil Parsons notched up a personal tally of 29 points in the one-sided encounter.

In form Abertillery BG claimed their eighth consecutive win in Division Five East as they chase leaders Machen. Dean Thomas kicked a penalty and three conversions to pass the century mark in just nine starts.
