The only Two East match on Saturday was between title hopefuls Newport Saracens and winless Brynmawr, so the 64-7 wasn’t a huge surprise. Nine Saracens players got among the tries, including props Scott Robertson and Craig Fitzpatrick, with flanker David Packer the only one to bag a double. The Brynithel-Tredegar and Nantymoel-Llantwit Fardre fixtures were postponed.
In Division Two West, leaders Dunvant had to fight every inch of the way before beating bottom-placed Seven Sisters 22-20, with outside half Rob Sweeney breaking the home players’ hearts with an injury-time try. To rub salt into the wound, Sweeney’s conversion turned a well-earned draw into a loss for a brave Seven Sisters side.
Bridgend Athletic goal-kicker Stuart Morris slotted five crucial goals in his side’s 23-20 win at Carmarthen Athletic, while Pontyberem beating Tonmawr 27-14.
Three South East strugglers Hirwaun produced one of their best performances of the season to beat third-placed Gilfan Goch 15-0. Outside-half Richard Jones slotted three penalty goals and dropped goal and winger Andrew Thomas landed a dropped goal in the tryless match. Tondu ran in 11 tries in their 63-5 Division Three South West victory over bottom-placed Alltwen, with Rob Smithson, Gregg Richards, Owen Pengilly, Richard Handley and Jamie Williamson all bagging doubles. Vardre returned from Bryncoch with a 34-8 win.
Four South East strugglers Penygraig recorded a rare win at the weekend – 17-5 over Llantwit Major – while in Four South West, Aberavon Green Stars won the battle of the bottom-placed sides with a hard-fought 10-7 victory over Abercrave. Briton Ferry travelled to Trebanos and dished out a 47-14 hiding.
In Five West, Aberaeron moved up to second with a 36-5 over bottom-placed St Davids, with winger Ywain ap Dylan scoring a hat-trick of tries, while in Five South East, Ogmore Vale went agonisingly close to their first win of the season before going down 17-16 at home to Ferndale.
Cefn Cribbwr moved into the top three in Five South West after a 39-5 win at Pontardawe, while Cwmtwrch sneaked home 14-13 over Cwmtwrch.
