Marc’s adopted club is Cardiff University and the team talk and shirt presentation must have had some effect on the students as they later went on to beat Swansea by 15 points to 5, despite the fact that Swansea were the favourites having only lost once in the Varsity Match in the past ten years.

Cardiff University have a close relationship with the Blues with many of the students who are part of the squad such as Aaron Fowler and Tom Isaacs playing for Blues Under 20’s and Jamie Roberts, Jonathon Hill and Nick Gill playing for the Cardiff Blues and Cardiff RFC.

Craig Quinnell was also busy last week visiting Aberdare under 13’s. The youngsters had an hour training session with Craig putting them through their paces as part of the excellent work carried out by the Blues in the region.  The scheme allows each club within the Blues region to adopt a player for their mini and junior sections.

Adopted players’ are available to attend mini or junior section events such as; presentation evenings, coaching sessions, or other clubs events involving the mini or junior section. Each Club will have access to their player on two occasions throughout the season.

With 56 Clubs in Cardiff Blues region in the Principality Premiership and the ASDA Leagues there are a lot of clubs to cover, stretching from Builth Wells in Powys to Barry in the Vale of Glamorgan.

The scheme is a great way of working closer with the grass roots game within the Cardiff Blues region and gives an opportunity for the mini and junior teams to meet their rugby heroes and for the players to give something back in to the game.
