Azzuri match set to sell out

Azzuri match set to sell out

It will be the first time a match against Italy in the Welsh capital has attracted a full house. Two years ago the corresponding fixture was watched by just over 70,000 spectators but the last of the 74,000 tickets was snapped up on Tuesday 28th February 2006 to guarantee a capacity crowd come matchday.

“This merely serves to demonstrate the tremendous loyalty of the Welsh fans in getting behind their team,” said WRU Chief Executive Steve Lewis. “Last season they had a Grand Slam to celebrate and, although there have been defeats this Championship against England and Ireland, this sell out for the Azzurri confirms that Wales really have got the best fans in the world.”

The final RBS Six Nations match, against France on 18th March, is already a sell out meaning over 222,000 fans will have watched RBS Six Nations matches at the Millennium Stadium this season; an impressive 100% occupancy for Wales’s Home Championship matches.
