WALES MAKE CHANGES FOR SPAIN CLASH

WALES MAKE CHANGES FOR SPAIN CLASH

The pack sees whole-scale changes from that which started in Dublin a fortnight ago.  Louise Horgan moves to loosehead, with her twin sister Claire coming up into the tighthead and Jenny Davies receiving her first start of the Six Nations at hooker.  In the back row, Captain Mel Berry returns to her favoured openside spot, Jamie Kift switches to the blind and Dawn Mason comes in at Number 8.  Kylie Wilson moves forward to partner Rachel Brown in the second row.

In the backs, Elen Evans comes in on the wing in the place of Louise Rickard, while Amy Day steps up into the scrum half position vacated by Mel Berry.  The rest of the backline remains unchanged.

The last time the two sides met they drew 10-10, but this time Wales will be determined to pull in a win that will maintain their current 3rd place standing in the Six Nations table.  After vital victories over Scotland and Ireland, they will be looking to make it three in a row by defeating a Spain side that is yet to secure a win in this year’s competition.

Assistant Coach, Jason Lewis is positive about the selection and the challenge ahead: “Throughout the Six Nations campaign we have talked about the concept of a 22 player squad.  This selection illustrates this concept and hopefully sends a message to all our players, and to Spain, that we have faith in the abilities of every member of our national squad.  The starting 15 has been picked as they all have the capability to play the game-plan and style that we feel needs to be played to beat Spain.”
