Wales U18 lose to England

Wales U18 had remained unbeaten for seven years in U18 Home Four Nations Championship prior to this result and were leading 9-3 with two penalties from full-back Leigh Halfpenny (Swansea College) and a drop goal by centre Jason Tovey (Cwmcarn HS) against a penalty by fly-half Rob Miller, before England U18 scored the opening try of the match.

With Wales on the attack, a Tovey grubber kick bounced off an English player into the path of centre Ben Williams. He galloped 60 metres to send wing Seb Stegmann racing in under the Welsh posts. Miller’s conversion gave England a 10-9 interval lead.

England were buoyant in the second half, their pack dominating possession and flanker Callum Clark was driven over at a line-out. Halfpenny’s brace of penalties drew scores level at 15-15 but Miller punished Welsh mistakes with his own brace of penalties in the last quarter to seal the result for England.
