Fight Night looms large

Fight Night looms large

Also in action will be Newport’s Bradley Pryce who was last week pleased to find out he is able to lay his Commonwealth light-middleweight title on the line against Tanzanian veteran Hassan Matumla.

And, as the big day is moving closer as the week progresses, Pryce will have to begin researching his opponent and fast.

“It was nice to hear I’m defending my belt,” said Pryce.

“It’s getting pretty close to the fight now and I was worried I might have to settle for an eight-rounder or something.

“I don’t know anything about this guy, so I’ll have to do a bit of homework.”

Pryce has his work cut out for him on Saturday as his opponent, Matumla who turned pro in 2000, like Pryce is a member of a fighting family and has boxed in countries as far and wide as Thailand, Nigeria and Kazakhstan. Although Matumla has lost four of his fights, he has never been stopped.

Other fighters lined up for Saturday’s Cardiff Boxing bonanza are Swansea’s KO king Enzo Maccarinelli, an explosive shoot out between Gary Lockett and Ryan Rhodes for the WBU Middleweight title and Gavin Rees, also in title action.  Not forgetting Amir Khan who takes to the ring attempting to take a few more paces towards professional glory.

On the basis of fitting in 16 bouts,  the doors will now open at 3pm on July 8 and not 5.30pm as stated on the tickets. At 3.15pm the first bell will ring, let the games begin!
