Lam looks for permanent Pacific Islands team

Lam’s team is made up of players from Tonga, Samoa and Fiji; this is the second time the three nations have come together and their first time in Europe.

Their inaugural games were in 2004 against New Zealand, South Africa and Australia. Lam, who represented Samoa during his playing days, hopes to see his side playing at the very highest level in the future.

“Island rugby did so much for me in my career that it is just a huge honour and privilege to be able to put something back in,” said Lam.

“The Pacific Islanders tour is an exciting concept and one that I hope is here to stay. But for that we know we must perform. We have to expose the islanders to top level rugby ahead of the World Cup.”

This will be the first time that the Islanders have toured with players exclusively committed to Tonga, Samoa or Fiji, the 2004 games having included men who had already represented the Tri Nations sides.
