Jenkins: “We have to re-focus”

Wales suffered their second defeat of the Championship following a 21-9 loss to Scotland at Murrayfield. Stephen Jones was out-scored by his Scottish counterpart Chris Paterson seven penalties to three as both sides failed to manufacture a try.

Jenkins said: “We obviously share the disappointment of the fans but I have to applaud the defensive efforts of the players. Scotland threw the kitchen sink at us with almost 70% of the possession but we didn’t concede a try.

“Our game just didn’t go to plan. It’s hard to attack when you only have 30% of possession and we spent so much time defending that we didn’t have the energy to attack. We thought we had weathered the storm at half-time but we never gave ourselves a platform from which to perform.”

Jenkins now has two weeks to get Wales back on track before facing France in Paris as they look for their first win of the campaign: “We have to re-focus and reorganise ourselves. We’ve got to use the harsh lessons learnt today to be competitive in France. We have to take a hard look at this game and decide where our priorities are.”
