Preview: Konica Minolta Cup Round 6

ASDA Division Three South East St Peter’s are the lowest ranking team still in the competition following a 16-3 fifth round win over Cardiff rivals Llanishen.

The cup dream continues for the side that made history fourteen years ago when they dumped Cardiff out of the competition. St Peter’s pulled off the biggest giant-killing act in the history of the tournament in 1993 beating Cardiff at the Arms Park.

With the Ravens sitting mid-table in the Premiership and struggling to reproduce the form of last season, all eyes will be on the Brewery Field for a potential upset.

At Church Bank Llandovery go head-to-head with Division One East outfit Caerphilly in a potential banana skin of a fixture for the premiership strugglers. The Drovers have had little luck in the league this season and a place in the last sixteen of the cup would provide a welcome distraction.

The Cheesemen, mid-table in One East, have all to play for following a hard fought 18-15 win over Carmarthen Quins in round five and will fancy their chances of an upset.

Cup-holders Pontypridd continue their defence against Maesteg at Sardis Road in what promises to be a tough test for Simon King’s young side. While the cup provides a welcome distraction from league duties, Ponty also have one eye on the league title and Maesteg will pounce on mistakes.

At the Gnoll, Premiership champions Neath play host to Cardiff for what promises to be an action-packed clash. Rowland Phillips’s side are six points off the top of the Premiership after a disappointing start to the season while Cardiff find themselves in sixth spot.

Cross Keys have home advantage on their side when they take on Aberavon at Pandy Park. The Keys are six points adrift of the Wizards in the Premiership but league form counts for nothing as the sides fight for a place in the quarter-finals.

At the Memorial Ground Premiership relegation candidates Glamorgan Wanderers and Bedwas meet in a welcome distraction from the pressures of the league. Elsewhere Llanelli travel to Rodney Parade to front up to Newport and Premiership front-runners Ebbw Vale take on Swansea at Eugene Cross Park.
