Peel: Scarlets are hungry for success

Peel: Scarlets are hungry for success

“It’s a challenge we are definitely up for,” said the Wales and Lions scrum half. “We have played some great rugby in the campaign so far and put ourselves in a good position to go on and do well in this competition, so it would be a shame to let it slip from now on in.

“The boys have got a definite hunger in their bellies; we realise Munster are a huge challenge and are the defending Champions but we are home at Stradey and we want to achieve.”

The Scarlets qualified as the number two seeds with a perfect six out of six wins in the Pool stages, but since January most of their players have been apart on international duty; however Peel feels the Heineken Cup brings the Scarlets together and will inspire his team.

“The Pool stages were before the RBS Six Nations, but even then there were a couple of weeks between rounds; come European time we seemed to click,” he said. “We have got to produce our best game of the season, we have three Cup finals to go.

“We are physically and mentally up for it after going to places like Toulouse, Ulster and London Irish and getting maximum points. I have been looking forward to this ever since the last round ended, but we have to work hard to make sure we are on top of our game.

“There is no better place to play than a packed Stradey for a big Heineken Cup game on a Friday night, so hopefully that will strive us on to wear the shirt proudly. To reach the Heineken cup Final with the Scarlets would be a fantastic honour, the club I have followed since I was a little boy, a dream right up there with anything I have achieved in the game.”
