Round Up: ASDA Leagues East
Cameron Toster and Keith Gibbertson both added tries for Llantrisant who have won all nineteen of their league games this season. Outside half Ian Worgan scored a try and slotted five conversions for the league leaders who remain on course for the title.
Second placed Rumney kept their thin hopes of catching the runaway leaders alive with a 10-24 win at Tredegar. Flanker Matthew Way crossed twice and outside half Danny Clarke scored a try and slotted two conversions.
Matthew Entwistle bagged a 21-point haul as second from bottom Croesyceiliog won 41-32 against visiting Treherbert. Outside half Entwistle scored a try, kicked five conversions and two penalties to claim Croesy’s second win in as many games. Gavin Howells scored twice and Scott Copsey and Richard Gibbons added tries to complete the scoring.
Ex-Rhymney fly half Matthew Bow put the boot into his former side with a last-gasp drop goal as Brynmawr edged past Rhymney 18-15 in Division Three. Prop Ashley Griffiths and centre Sipo Nobatano crossed for Brynmawr with outside half Bow kicking a conversion and penalty before stealing the points with a late drop goal.
League leaders Penallta kept their title bid on track with a 21-3 defeat of visiting Pontypool United. Wing Lee Thomas, centre Sean Powell and hooker Rhys Cleverly all bagged tries for the champions-elect with outside half Gareth Davies slotting three conversions.
Richard Powell kicked Nantyglo to a useful 26-5 victory over table-topping Garndiffaith in Division Four. Outside half Powell converted a try from wing Tom Watkins and kicked four penalties for a sixteenth win of the season.
Second placed Old Illtydians took advantage of the Garn’s slip as they saw off Llandaff North 33-21 to go level on points with the league leaders. Cai Lewis bagged a brace to set Old Illtydians on their way and there were tries from Matthew Taylor, Neil Barrymore and Matt Bird. Ex-Wales fullback Matt Black slotted four conversions to keep Old Illtydians in the title race.
Abertillery BG remain on course for the Division Five title thanks to a 10-25 away win at Bettws. Aled Penn, Jonathan Price and Gareth Edwards crossed for the league leaders who maintain a six point cushion at the top. Second placed Gwernyfed kept the pressure on with a 3-17 win at Caldicot.
