However, Newbridge insist they will keep going until the end as they bid to leapfrog their championship rivals.
“We are still in with a shout and that’s the main thing at this crucial stage of the season,” said Team Manager Nigel Paul.
“The team will keep going and we all know it is all about victories rather than performances now for us. We’ve got experienced coaches and players who have been through this before so they know exactly what will be needed to get promotion.”
Beddau are still in pole position though and came from behind at the break to teach the students of UWIC a lesson with a 39-25 win. Chris Robinson bagged a 24-points haul, with Chris Jones and Glen Slater among the try-scorers.
Rock-bottom Ystrad Rhondda boosted their survival chances with a 30-13 success over free-falling Caerphilly and to round off a great win, they discovered fellow strugglers Abercynon and Blackwood had only shared the spoils in an exciting 32-32 draw.
Newport Saracens are safe as they made certain of another term at this level with a 17-15 victory at Llanharan.
Meanwhile, the race for the title in Division One West is just as hotly contested and will also go right down to the wire. Bonymaen still remain hot favourites and need one point from their remaining game following their 43-29 win at Whitland.
Jason Wride grabbed a brace of tries and Ieuan Hopkins also crossed, but it was Gareth James who stole the show with eighteen points from the boot.
Carmarthen Quins kept the pressure on with a 45-17 victory against relegation-threatened Waunarlwydd. Alan Mason (2), Andy Thomas and Chris Jones all crossed while Mark Jones’s six conversions ensured victory.
Builth Wells look certainties for the drop after losing out 47-40 in a high-scoring clash at Merthyr while Loughor crashed 39-27 at Narberth.
