Whilst Tredegar lie mid-table in Division 2 East in the WRU National Leagues and have progressed into round 2 of the Konica WRU Cup, Johnstone has strengthened the squad in midfield, at halfback and in the pack.
Johnstone said, “Whilst we have depended on a small squad to start the season it was always my intention to secure the right players to add to and enhance the playing capabilities of a squad that is capable of putting Tredegar RFC back on the map as a force in Welsh rugby.”
Johnstone has signed former Newbridge centre Ian Marsh to add stability to the midfield and exciting scrum half Ross Turner has signed from 1st Division Fleur de Llys.
Jamie Noble in the boilerhouse has transferred from Pontypool and will prove an effective partnership with Ben Harding, Rhys Roberts and Jack Dawson giving Tredegar more options in the line-out.
Johnstone added, “Whilst these immediate signings will strengthen our squad we are in negotiations with an Australian prop forward who plays for a first division side in Sydney and once the formalities are completed we will announce full details of his acquisition shortly, but I am always looking for local players who can add to the Tredegar cause.”
