The teams had been virtually inseparable until that point and it was Carter who had kept his team in the game as the Old Boys outscored their hosts by five tries to four, with fullback Mike Burke and wing Tom Diggle getting two apiece for the visitors.
Tredegar replied with scores from Jack Dawson, Chris James, Paul Southwell and Stuart Jarman and would have been celebrating victory were it not for Carter’s misfortune, the score finishing up at 30-29.
Abercynon were late winners in their game against bottom club Llanishen who had fought back from a 23-7 deficit to square the match at 23-all with little time remaining. The high flyers maintained their unbeaten record though when centre Gareth Davies crashed over with only two-minutes left on the clock.
Penallta and Ystrad Rhondda also kept up their winning starts with wins over Ynysybwl and Mountain Ash respectively.
In Division Three, Pontypool United suffered a similar fate to Tredegar when their outside half Morgan West missed the last kick of the game to see his side go down 10-9 at New Tredegar while Croesyceiliog recorded a 33-15 bonus point win over Nelson to stay top.
In Division Four Nantyglo lost their unbeaten record at Abertillery who overpowered their visitors 22-17 and in Division Five Caldicot went top with a 39-12 home win against Llanhilleth.
