Injury double compounds Cardiff woes

Injury double compounds Cardiff woes

Blues Coach Dai Young admits the serious injuries to Robert Sidoli and Rhys Williams compounded last night’s (Friday) 17-5 defeat to Glasgow Warriors.

Wales Grand Slam winning lock Sidoli was taken to hospital after dislocating his shoulder early in the second half at Firhill while try-scorer Williams was stretchered off with a dislocated knee on a nightmare night in Glasgow.

And Young couldn’t hide his disappointment as the injuries begin to stack up for the Magners League leaders. “The result is compounded by the injuries. To lose another two players is hugely disappointing for us and I would think they will be lengthy absences,” said Young.

“We had 11 key first-team players out in total but we’re trying to build a squad here. The squad wasn’t quite good enough and we’re disappointed we’ve lost but we didn’t do a lot wrong.

“We were dominant up front at both the scrum and line-out, defended well and kept the ball well. But we lacked the cutting edge and penetration after three or four phases of play.

“We’ve lost because of an intercepted try and Dan Parks’s kicking. He kicked everything while we hit the post twice. But we know if we want to win championships we have to come to places like this and get a result.”
