Jones warns winning Ospreys

Lyn Jones gave this stark warning to his wining Ospreys: “This competition is very tough; one mistake and you’re out.”

Jones watched his side beat Ulster 16-8 in a nervy night at Ravenhill and sounded a note of caution with two rounds to play of the Pool stage.

“We missed out by a single point last year and that is still very disappointing for a lot of the boys. This year we have two games remaining and we are aiming for a total of 21 points.”

That means they need maximum points from their remaining matches against Gloucester in Round 5 and Bourgoin in Round 6. But Jones was delighted with the win over Ulster despite missing out on a bonus point.

“We knew it was going to be difficult and it certainly proved to be,” said Jones. “We are delighted with a win. We toughened things up in the second half and won by eight points.”

Ulster were leading 8-6 at the half time break and Jones gave what turned out to be a telling team talk, “It’s another difficult test that we have come through,” he said after the match. “The way the players responded in the second half was great.

“We took the game to them in the second half, upped our discipline and started to move the ball around.”
