The home side came out with all guns blazing and raced into an early 12-0 lead through tries from flanker Guy Thompson and a spectacular length of the field effort from fullback Allan Allcock and a further score from Thompson gave them a 22-10 advantage at the break.
But the visitors came out fighting in the second period and clawed their way in front through a Wayne Williams try and some fine kicking from fullback Justin Lewis and after Rhys Crane had temporarily regained UWIC’s lead with a well-worked score, Jenkins stepped up to go over and break their hearts.
There was little trouble for the Premiership’s other sides as they breezed past their lower division opposition.
Cardiff made light of a seemingly tricky tie at Pontypool to stroll to a 62-13 triumph with centre Richard Jones claiming a hat-trick while Swansea were the round’s top scorers with a 91-0 hammering of Tredegar Ironsides.
Osprey’s centre David Bishop was another hat-trick hero as Bridgend banished their league woes in a 61-0 trouncing of Bryncethin while Bedwas and Cross Keys were also comfortable winners against Nantyfflyllon and Lougher respectively.
Neath coasted in for 13 tries in their 83-17 annihilation of Blackwood Stars but Llanelli were made to work decidedly harder for their spot in the next round by a stubborn Llangennech side, finally coming through 24-11.
Ebbw Vale were 46-13 winners at Llantrisant and Glamorgan Wanderers put city rivals Rumney to the sword in a 31-0 demolition.
Pontypridd had little trouble in their 48-6 triumph over Ammanford and Newport’s journey west was also a fruitful one as they came away from Carmarthen Athletic with a 25-3 victory. Aberavon scrum half Chris Morgans scored a last minute try to deny Tredegar a famous victory and Maesteg completed the Premiership clean sweep with a 27-18 win at Felinfoel.
Elsewhere, Narberth’s Aled Davies had a field day at Abergavenny collecting a 30 point haul in his side’s 45-0 win. The outside half crossed for two tries as well as kicking four conversions and four penalties. Nick Jones, Gethin Beynon and Adrian Killa also crossed for tries.
Llanharan scored six tries at the Dairy Field as they over powered Maesteg Celtic 37-14. Winger Dorian Thomas grabbed a brace while centre pairing Lloyd Thomas and James Harris also touhed down. In a spirited display, Celtic claimed two tries of their own through Liam Barry and Ieuan Morris.
Methyr had too much for Penallta as they eased to a 36-7 triumph while Caerphilly owed their 16-14 victory over Mountain Ash to a marvellous effort from livewire centre Lee Mullane while Phil Harwood went over twice in Bonymaen’s 16-5 victory over Pontyberem.
Wayne Jervis scored 15 points as Ystrad Rhondda beat Llandarcy 25-6 and No.8 Rob Hill was once again amongst the tries as Tonmawr continued their league form with a 25-3 win over fellow Division One West side Corus.
