Cardiff Blues lock Deniol Jones has been called in to the Wales squad to provide cover.

“Deiniol has been in good form for the Blues this season and deserves his chance,” said Wales Forwards Coach Robin McBryde. “If he can recreate what he has been doing at regional level in the international environment then we will be more than happy with him.”

Ospreys lock Jones damaged a ligament in his right ankle in the 26-19 win over England at Twickenham last Saturday, which has given his namesake a chance to stake a claim.

“Alun Wyn is going for a scan this week and he is definitely ruled for the game against Scotland. He is targeting the Italian match as a return,” said Wales Physio Mark Davies.

Fellow Osprey Jonathan Thomas is set to undergo further neurological tests following his head injury sustained in the first quarter of the Twickenham match.

“Jonathan Thomas left the field with a mild head injury but he recovered very quickly,” added Davies. “He has been seen by a neurologist and had a scan and the news has been very positive.

“He will have a progressive series of tests today (Monday) before a further consultation with a nuerologist. After that we will be able to make an informed decision on his availability.”
