The weekend victory over England led to a flurry of requests from supporters who want to be at the Millennium Stadium for the first Wales home match of this year’s tournament, in the encounter against Scotland this Saturday (kick-off 2.00pm).
The Welsh Rugby Union has decided to install the temporary seating as a new back row in the lower level tier of the stadium which was sold out for the Scottish fixture by last week. The new seats will remain in place for the remaining two home matches against Italy on February the 23rd and France on March the 15th.
All the new seats will be offered to Welsh Rugby Union clubs to ensure that regular supporters have first call on the tickets. If there are any remaining after the offer to clubs then they will be offered for public sale later in the week.
The new ticket allocation will boost the crowd for the Wales versus Scotland match to just under 75,000. In the past extra temporary seating has only been installed at the Millennium Stadium for the Heineken Cup Final and the FA Cup Final.
The Group Chief Executive of the Welsh Rugby Union, Roger Lewis, said: “The victory over England has added an extra dynamic to this game and the atmosphere is going to be electric.
“We had to act quickly but we decided to make the effort of installing the extra seating to ensure as many supporters as possible will get to get into the Millennium Stadium for the match.
“The game was already a sell out but we are delighted to be able to reward the loyalty of our fans with these 600 new places in the ground. Cardiff has a fantastic reputation as a great rugby city on match days and I just can’t wait to welcome our Scottish visitors to Wales.
“We have also been working particularly hard to ensure the pre-event activities in the stadium add as much as possible to the occasion so we would encourage everyone with a ticket to get seated early.
“There are three Six Nations home fixtures this season so it is going to be truly memorable tournament for all our home based fans.”
