In an adaptation to the regular fixture between RTB Ebbw Vale RFC and Abertillery RFC mini section, both clubs entered their fixtures with the addition of a bigger aim: to encourage an active and healthy lifestyle with the aid of two Welsh international rugby players.
The day’s events were in partnership with Health Challenge Wales, Welsh Rugby Union and Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council and was established to assist with encouraging the 250 players, both boys and girls, and 200 strong crowd of parents and spectators into healthy eating and active lifestyles.
After each game, under 8s up through to under 12s, both the players and parents had the opportunity to talk to the internationals about professional lifestyles, the dos and don’ts of weekly shopping and their active lifestyles within and out of their sport, as well as collecting autographs and photo opportunities.
The promotion of rugby events for both boys and girls, active lifestyle programmes, fitness classes and ‘life’ card schemes were some of the programmes also being promoted in an educational event that was enjoyed by all.
