We were hosted very well by Lutterworth and the Exile Squad performed admirably to carve out an 8-5 victory. We thank the coaches for the day, John Stamper and Huw Reeves, who had travelled up from Hampshire to look after the team which came mainly from the North of the country.
At half-time the game was very evenly poised at one penalty apiece. However, one moment of magic from the Welsh fly half Alex Jones swung the game our way when he sliced through the Lutterworth defence to score a fine individual try to win the game.
The Welsh forwards played with huge commitment and competed very well to hold their own against a side that had played many, many times together. The backs ran the ball at every opportunity and showed awareness of space which kept their opponents’ defence very stretched at times.
The Exiles wish to thank the Williams family for arranging the game for us and we thank the parents and coaches for attending from various parts of the country.
