Sowden Taylor doubtful for Heineken quarter

Cardiff Blues flanker Robin Sowden Taylor is a major doubt for the Heineken Cup quarter-final with Toulouse after sustaining a shoulder injury playing Magners League rugby.

The Blues have released a statement that says Sowden Taylor will undergo a scan on Thursday to assess the extent of the damage to his shoulder, sustained during the match against the Llanelli Scarlets last Friday.

A tackle by Scarlets prop Deacon Manu forced Sowden Taylor to leave the field and initial results of the x-ray are that he sustained an injury to the AC joint. The scan will determine whether Robin will need any surgery on the injury and if so, Sowden Taylor’s season will be over.

That means the Wales squad member will be forced to sit out the crunch match with three-times European champions Toulouse in two weeks.

Sowden Taylor has made just one appearance in the Blues’ back row in this year’s competition to take his career total to 14 Heineken Cup appearances, including seven as a replacement.
