Wales Sevens continue winning run

Wales made it two from two in the Hong Kong Sevens after achieving an impressive 34-5 win over Korea in the second of their three pool matches.

The win, and crucially the margin of victory, now gives Wales a chance to qualify for the quarter finals of the Cup, either as group winners or as one of the two best second placed teams.

“We’ve got our final match against Fiji later today and that will be our focus,” said Wales Sevens Coach Gareth Baber, adding: “We’ve also got to see how the other matches in our group go.”

After Gareth Owen had opened the scoring for a second successive tie, Wales never looked troubled against the Koreans. Skipper Johnathan Edwards, winger Aled Brew and half back Lee Williams then ran in further first half tries to put Wales 24-0 ahead at the break.

In the hot and sticky conditions Wales were able to add two more tries after the interval, Richie Pugh and Williams the scorers. However, Korea showed that they were no pushover with a try in the second half by pace man Lee Jung-Min.
