Merthyr Youth 22 Bonymaen Youth 20

The players from both teams contributed to an enthralling contest which kept the 1000 plus crowd on the edge of their seats.

Merthyr Youth established an early lead with a smartly taken try by centre Mitchell Dummett, converted by outside half Lloyd Hynes.

Bonymaen Youth, with the impressive Richard Williams to the fore, fought back with a try from James Bija converted by Williams adding to an earlier penalty by outside half Williams. On the brink of half time Kristian Dacey’s try re-established the Merthyr lead.

In the early part of the second half Bonymaen exerted pressure which produced a penalty, kicked by Williams, and a converted try from wing Christopher Hoppe.

With the minutes ticking away it looked as if the Swansea based team would hold onto their 20-15 lead but with the last movement of the match Merthyr Youth Captain and hooker James Howe scored his team’s vital try. With the final kick of the match Merthyr Youth’s Hynes converted the try to clinch his side’s victory.
