Round Up: Principality Premiership

Cross Keys picked up their 10th win of the season in the Principality Premiership as they avenged their 30-6 mauling at the Talbot Athletic Ground earlier in the season.

The home side also picked up three tries, while Aberavon’s sole try came from Wales U18 centre Ashley Beck.

Gareth David also had a good day with the boot as he won the day for Bridgend at Bedwas with an injury time penalty that gave his side a 17-14 victory. That final goal was David’s fifth of the afternoon and outshone the three kicked by home star Stuart Thomas.

Pontypridd outside half Neil Burnett was another match-winner as he helped himself to 21 points in his side’s 31-26 home win over battling Maesteg. The visitors were 22-3 down at one stage, but fought back to within two points in the closing stages thanks to two tries from Grant Epton and another from Marcus Sainsbury.

But Burnett kept on hitting the mark and his 79th minute penalty – his fourth of the game – finally made the game safe for the home side. Former Wales back row man Geraint Lewis scored two tries for Ponty to make up the points.

Wales U20 outside half Dan Biggar convered three of Swansea’s four tries in their 26-15 bonus point win at bottom of the table Llandvoery, while Wales Sevens cap James Lewis scored Ebbw Vale’s try in their 13-13 home draw with Glamorgan Wanderers.

James Hook’s elder brother Michael was on target for Newport in the Black and Ambers’ 17-10 win at Llanelli. The former Wales U21 cap convered both tries from the visitors and also added a penalty.

On Sunday Cardiff entertained Neath at the Arms Park and ran out narrow winners 24-22, but that couldn’t prevent the visitors raising the Principality Premiership trophy for the fourth consecutive season.
