In a final full of action, Beddau held onto the Worthington’s Mid District Cup for the fifth successive season, but only just overcame an Ystrad Rhondda side who will bring a lot of power to Division One East next season.
Ystrad had the edge for much of the match, but Beddau soaked up everything the Division Two Champions could throw at them and referee Gwyn Morris had to be in the right place to turn down three massive charges at the Beddau line in the second half.
Fly-half Dylan Jones fired Ystrad ahead after five minutes and eight minutes later clever back play saw centre Gerwyn Davies go over with Jones converting. Fly-half James Balfrey replied with two penalties before and one just after the interval, but Jones landed one to give Ystrad a 13-9 lead.
After fifty minutes good centre play from Beddau saw Huw Williams send wing Elio Pellegrotti over for what proved to be the winning score. Ystrad hammered away, but Beddau somehow held on and finished with a mighty rush back upfield.
