Against all adversities the players and committee have made it into their 10th season of rugby. Recruitment and retention issues, lack of sponsorship and financial support have not been enough to put off this very determined group of rugby players and fans.
There is a full year of events planned to mark this very special achievement, including Past and Present player matches, a national and International tour, social events, open coaching evenings with fully qualified coaches and much more.
Despite now playing in Division 2 of the South Wales league Tylorstown Ladies are determined that this season will be one where they re-build and re-group to go from strength to strength. Senior Player Amy Kelland said “This year we have a really positive upbeat feel with the squad. We have a strong core squad that I know we can build on. Playing rugby is great fun and also has a great social aspect. Come along and train with us and I’m sure you’ll know what I mean.”
In the past the Ladies have made the National Cup Final twice, winning it in 2005/06. Our International stars include Amy Kelland, Gemma Allen and Dani Isbell. Tylorstown Ladies were also nominated for Rhondda Team of the Year in 2006.
The current focus within the team is to concentrate on pre season training and recruiting new players. You may see some of our posters or receive flyers through your door. If you do please pass on the contact details to anyone you think who may be interested in playing rugby.
Also the team is appealing to all local businesses who wish to support the only Ladies team in the Rhondda. In return for your sponsorship you would have application rights to International tickets advertisements through match programs, the WRU website and the local press. Previous sponsors have included COSTAIN and Rhondda Ready Mix. All sponsorship goes directly to the team for kit and equipment.
If you are aged 18 or above interested in keeping fit ad making new friends please come along to training or join us on our first open evening on August the 6th at Penrhys Park. Please call or text Rachel on 07917035473 if you have questions!
