Welsh Charitables honour Grand Slam winners

After helpful the national side to their 10th Grand Slam, the backroom staff are being honourd by the Welsh Charitables at a presentation evening later this month.

On Friday, 26 September at the Greenmeadow Golf & Country Club Cwmbran, the Welsh Charitables RFC are holding their annual Vice Presidents Dinner and will honour the backroom team of the successful Wales Grand Slam Winning Side of 2008 by making them Vice Presidents.

Receiving their Vice Presidents ties on the night will be Head Coach Warren Gatland, Backs Coach Rob Howley, Forwards Coach Robin McBryde, Kicking Coach Neil Jenkins, Team Manager Alan Phillips, WRU President Dennis Gethin and WRU Chairman David Pickering.

Defence Coach Shaun Edwards and WRU Group Chief Executive Roger Lewis are unable to attend due to prior commitments.

Hon Secretary David Power said: “It is indeed a great coop for the Welsh Charitables to have such an attendance from the WRU which will enhance the evenings proceedings.

“We feel it’s also worthy to recognise the hard work put in by all the backroom guys who helped to make it all possible and were an integral part of that Grand Slam Winning Team”

Also being honoured on the night is Former Wales Captain, Coach, Scrum Half and former WRU President Clive Rowlands who is to be made a Life Vice President for all his help and support of the Welsh Charitables RFC.

Former Wales & British Lions Centre Steve Fenwick, John & Richard Hughes of the World Famous Groggs who now have the Welsh Charitables RFC are one of their nominated charities, BBC producer and director Rhys Edwards son of the Legendary Gareth Edwards, Chief rugby correspondent for the South Wales Argus Robin Davey and Anthony Woolford Senior Sports Journalist for Media Wales.

They will be joined on the night by a raft of former internationals, including David Watkins, JPR Williams, Bryn Meredith, Tom David, Dai Morris, Adrian Hadley, John Perkins and Richard Smith.

All monies raised on the night will go to the Welsh Charitables RFC “We Want a Million Appeal” to form a Trust Fund to support their nominated charities namely Ty Hafan the Children’s Hospice in Wales, St Anne’s Hospice, St David’s Foundation Hospice Care, The Welsh Rugby Charitable Trust (A trust for players at all levels who get injured whilst playing the game and WREX, the Wales former Players Association.
