Injury woes mount for Scarlets

The Scarlets face an anxious wait on a mounting injury list as they prepare to face classy French outfit Stade Francais with a seriously depleted squad.

Morgan Stoddart and Rhys Priestland are the latest to join the crocks list with Stoddart picking up a collarbone injury against Connacht in the Magners League last Friday while stand-off Priestland suffered a knock to his knee in the same game.

Head coach Nigel Davies has already had to do without Wales winger Mark Jones who is recovering from an appendix operation while former Bristol centre Rob Higgitt (ankle) and wing Dafydd James (neck) continue to be unavailable for selection with lengthy lay-offs.

Davies could be forced into picking a makeshift back division for this weekend’s Heineken Cup pool game as the Frenchmen come to Parc y Scarlets hoping to keep their qualification hopes alive.

Davies’s plans are futher hampered because neither Gareth Morris or French triallist Yannick N’Gog are registered in the region’s Heineken Cup squad. Regulations state one of the pair can be registered this week in place of one of the injured players, but it still leaves Davies with a number of selection headaches.
