Davies took the whole of his Six Nations group to one of his former stamping grounds for a five day training camp and was delighted with the progress made by his players.
“It has been an intense few days for the players and coaches and I have to say I was very pleased with what the players produced in the game,” said Davies.
“They worked well both with and without the ball and showed signs of taking on board the messages we had been giving them in training. We worked particularly hard on the contact area and the players retained the ball well during the game.
“Rob Hoadley has been working on Shaun Edwards’ template in defence and we used the same defensive formation as the national side. Our line organisation was good and we kept a clean sheet.
“We have got a young group of players who are prepared to work hard and this game will have given them confidence ahead of the Six Nations championship.”
Ospreys threequarters Ashley Beck and Kristian Phillips shone behind the scrum and they were responsible for giving the Welsh side a 14-0 interval lead. Beck ran to the posts for the opening try following a break by Pontypool lock Sam Pailor on the half-hour and then set-up Phillips for the second on the stroke of half-time.
Dragons Academy outside half Dai Langdon converted both, but it was the Neath outside half Matthew Jarvis who took over the kicking duties in the second half. He kicked two penalties, but failed to convert further tries from Dragons centre Adam Hughes and last season’s Wales Under 18 captain and hooker Rhys Williams.
The Leeds side was made up of Leeds Carnegie university students and local club players, among them ex-Wales Youth lock Max Lewis, who is now playing for Ottley.
Davies’ side launch their championship campaign in Scotland in Perth on Friday, 6 February before welcoming last season’s Grand Slam champions, and IRB Junior World Championship runners-up, England to Wales on Friday, 13 February.
