The 27-year-old pounced for a hat-trick of tries in the corresponding cup tie between the clubs two years ago. On that occasion Cardiff defeated the Otters 69-14 in a successful cup run that took them all the way to the final at the Millennium Stadium.

Since then the Blue & Blacks have played nine cup matches away from the Arms Park but Jones has continued his try-scoring exploits in the cup with another hat-trick last season at Pontypool and a touchdown last month against Bethesda.

Player-coach Lee Jarvis, who passed 100 points for the season last Saturday, faces a late fitness on an ankle injury. If he fails to come through, the number 10 shirt will be worn by Gareth Davies who has also racked up 118 points for the club in all matches this season.

Other changes from the side that scored five tries in defeating Newport last week see the return of Craig Morgan for fellow Wales’ cap Rhys Williams at full-back and in the pack Garry Horrigan and replacement Rhys James exchange roles while scrum-half David Walsh and prop Richard Cornock are also brought on to the bench.

Team: Craig Morgan; Ryan Howells, Richard Jones, Darren Ryan, Chris Czekaj; Lee Jarvis (or Gareth Davies), Owen Ruttley (captain); Ian George, Garry Horrigan, Kristian Gay, James Down, Damian Welch, Adam Powell, Craig Everett, Rhys Shellard

Replacements: Rhys James, Richard Cornock, Phil Osborne, Jake Thomas, David Walsh, Gareth Davies (or Gareth Chapman), Shaun James.
