Under 16s showpiece gets thumbs up

After a couple of faltering starts, the WRU Age Grade Under 16 championship final will finally be played this evening at Aberavong (kick-off 7.15pm) between the Scarlets and Blues North.

Tonight’s game, rearranged due to the inclement weather over the festive period and the four-times postponed final fixture between the Scarlets and Blues South, promises to be every bit as exciting as the pool games between the sides.
Once again, the quality and potential of the Under 16 sides in Wales has shone through to underpin the success of the senior age grade sides at under 18 and under 20.
Competition organiser Nick Rose of the WRU said, “The Championship seems to go from strength to strength and the quality of play this season has surpassed anything we have seen before.
“I think it proves that our restructuring programme has worked and that we have a really decent platform on which to launch ourselves for success at international level this season.
“These two teams have been a credit to their regions and I am sure that we are in for a wonderful evening of rugby between two sides who have improved out of all recognition this season.”
The North will fancy their chances of lifting another piece of silverware for McIntosh and co-coach Lee Jarvis if only because of their consistency throughout the campaign.
