Cardiff Blues centre Dafydd Hewitt is aiming high as Wales prepare to take on the world at the RWC Sevens in Dubai.

Hewitt was part of the Wales side which recorded rare victories over Fiji and New Zealand in the same world series tournament in Wellington recently. He has continued his form from the abbreviated game into the fuller version by scoring for the Blues against Glasgow last weekend in the Magners League.
But his full attention is now firmly on the RWC Sevens where he will be a pivotal member of Paul John’s side who are grouped with Argentina, Zimbabwe and Uruguay.
“We’ve got to set a realistic target of making the quarter-finals. From there there’s nothing to say we can’t go on to the semi-final,” he said. “We’ve got Uruguay and Zombabwe and then Argentina who will be the toughest in the pool. If we can get three wins from that we will be guaranteed a quarter-final spot, if not, two big wins and a narrow loss should see us through.”
Despite Wales’s recent good form on the sevens circuit, Hewitt said his playing colleagues won’t be taking anything for granted.
“There are eight to 12 teams who are equally as good as each other,” explained Hewitt. “Each of them can pull a performance out of the bag so you never know what you are going to get out of any side. Any win over whoever it is against is a bonus.”
